DC242 -THE FPO DAYS

dave77884

Growing up in Freeport Bahamas from the age of 2, it was a given that I would eventually

find my way into the ocean. That journey began around the age of 4 when I would learn

to free dive holding on to my Dads shoulders. Tapping out when air was running low and watching him continue to descend as I made my way back to the surface.

They say that sons tend to emulate their Dads and I certainly tried my best to be as good of diver ashe was. Not sure if I ever got there. But from the age for 13 - 18, I managed to get in alot of diving and spearfishing. Growing up in Freeport was a blessing, I had access to a boat before I had a car. So learning to dive the southern reefs was a real gift. I didnt realize that at the time, but great memories. While I didnt learn to scuba dive back then, I certainly remember times diving on the reef and seeing scuba divers pass by from one of the local charters. Honestly I thought they were noisy as hell lol. I also had a science teacher Jill Yager who would come to class every week and talk about this crazy type of diving called Cave Exploration. At the time I thought it was insanity. Jill did some major cave exploration in the island caves and ended up finding and naming a new species. She is also in the Womens Diver Hall of fame. You can read more about her here > Jill Yager

Sadly I never paid attention in Jills class, but if I could go back and chat with 15 year old Dave Clee, I would tell him to carry her tanks

and learn as much as you could from her.

Great memories from the 242 :) Cheers Dave
