July 2019 - KDS pool sessions start and I knew from the first day, this was going to be an "all in" hobby for me. Shoutout to PADI instructor Dave Testa, he was a great first instructor ! For the most part I didnt have much difficulty with the pool sessions, skills were easy enough and I attributed my in water comfort factor to all of the ocean experience I had back in my younger years. But allowing this confidence to trickle into my dive journey would soon prove to be a mistake. Once the pool sessions were complete, we timed it right with a family vacation back to the Bahamas, where I decided to do my Open Water checkouts with Bahamas Divers in Nassau. The checkout dives were pretty awesome experience for me, as it reminded me of my early days being underwater. But the difference this time was I could stay down and really take in the beauty of it. I was blown away and each checkout dive provided a more immersive experience. For my last checkout dive, we were visited by a couple of dolphins who decided to hang around for the duration..A dive gift for sure.
With the checkout dives complete and my Open Water certification in hand, I signed up for a 2 dive charter the following day with Bahamas Divers. That proved to be a bit of an eye opener in terms of safety or the lack of it. Check out our bonus story section for my first official dive as a newly certified diver :)
613DIVE begins ? Well, when we finished up our Open Water pool sessions a few of us newbie divers wanted to keep in touch and arrange some group dives. So when I got back from vacation, I created the 613DIVE Facebook group so the 4 of us could keep in touch. Ironically, I am the only one from that group that continued to dive :(
So I kept the group open and we started to get more and more members.
